It's a future version of Australia, where climate change has ravaged the environment, leaving a dried up, depleted shell of its former self. This is the basis of
Sprout, the debut play from Jessica Bellamy.
Sprout was the winner of the Rodney Seaborn Playwrights Award 2011, and a finalist in the World Wildlife Fund Creative Arts Awards 2012.
Sprout is not all doom and gloom, however. Amongst the desolation, four people slowly take root, crack through the dirt, and start to sprout.
Sprout is brought to life by the talented members of
7th Floor Theatre . This production follows on from their successful staging of John Patrick Shanley's
Where's my Money?
Producer and Co-Artistic Director of
7th Floor Theatre , Catherine Ward, says: "The relevance of Sprout to today's audiences cannot be overstated, it is a play that grapples with environmental devastation, the power of language, social duty, freedom and the significance of hope. We cannot wait to present this fantastic Australian work to audiences post-lockdown."
Sprout is playing at
The William's Hall, 220 Macpherson Street, Princes Hill, from
17 - 27 November.
Tickets are
$30 - $35.
