Scientific fun and play for FREE
Held on the lawns and amongst the beautiful gardens of Flinders University's Bedford Park Campus, Sturt Road, Bedford Park on Saturday 19 October 2019 from 10 am to 3 pm, SpringFest will be a great day out for all kids big and small.

From weird and wacky to exciting wonders, there is an amazing array of free activities and experiences to enjoy. Brew your own nature potion or build a cubby house overlooking the picturesque lake.

Head to the Plaza where you can sit back, relax and let the worries fall away as the main stage hosts an inspiring variety of music and performing arts. The line up includes MC Amelia Ryan (10 am), Dance Like Everyone's Watching (10.40 am), Fredh the Clown (11 am), Adam Page (11.40 am), Bortier Okoe & African Soul (12.50 pm) and Nathan May & Band (2 pm).

While you are listening to the fabulous entertainment, take a moment to explore the Bubble Gum Markets also in the plaza. There will be original artworks, jewellery, cool threads and simply the best creative, handmade and sustainable products.

If you are looking for ideas and ways to get your little ones into the great outdoors, then Nature Play will also be in the plaza with a thoughtfully curated selection of books and quality products to inspire you with fabulous ideas.

When you are done with the plaza, head to The Hub where there will be lots of fun and activity.

The Ground Floor will have Flinders Graduates discover how to continue to engage with the University for your chance to win a MacBook Pro with Engage Me: Alumni. All visitors can check-in at the Information Booth for a chance to win one of five family passes to Adelaide Zoo.

Level 1 will host an array of great, fun activities. Playtime Corner (suitable for ages 4 and up) will have you sticking, stamping and decorating. Bring a friend, let your imagination run wild and build something amazing.

The Lizard Ecology Room, Room 168 will have you all schooled up on living life as a lizard. You will explore adaptations for survival and learn about habitats.

The Augmented Reality Sandbox (suitable for ages 4 and up) will enable you to use your hands to make flooding rain or let the lava flow. Build your own landscape including a mountain, lake, river or dam.

From 11 am to 2.30 pm, ages 7 and up can discover the joy of using their hands for basket weaving. This creative, social and meditative process will teach them to be mindful while creating.

Did you know that selfies can be more than well, selfies? Ages 4 and up can find their true colours and measure temperature variations with thermal selfies, as used by biologists and archaeologists.

Those aged 6 and up can kick back in the Multimedia Lounge, relax indoors and unwind with Inside Out and Zootopia on the big screen.

Ages 8 and up can have a go at screen printing their own poster with South Australian artist Jake Holmes. Have fun experimenting with text, shapes, colour, layers and textures.

It will be all about nature at the Humanities Courtyard with Wildlife Displays and Shows (11 am, 12 pm and 1 pm) suitable for ages 3 and up. Discover and learn about native wildlife with interactive displays and shows featuring friendly Australian animals.

Kids big and small can engage their senses as they experiment with seasonal plants, water, natural play doughs, clay and other earthy mediums in tactile play.

From 10.30 am to 2.30 pm, become a lion, tiger, meerkat or spider or simply embrace the wild animal within with free face painting in the laneway.

Lakeside ages 4 and up can get creative using spring leaves, sticks and feathers to make their own unique and beautiful personal mask. Ages 8 and up can learn how GPS technology can help them find their way through nature. They will use problem-solving, team building and creative thinking on a high tech treasure hunt of the campus grounds.

From 10.30 am to 2.30 pm Anchor Court will host some great scientific shows such as Liquid Nitrogen Icecream (10.30 am and 2.30 pm), The Bone Detectives – Profession Flint & The Flintettes (11 am and 1 pm) and Thinking CaPS Science Show (12 pm and 2 pm).

Ages 4 and up can dig their way 600 million years into the past with SA Museum's fossil dig pits, explore the ball pit to hunt down dino bones and piece a colourful skeleton together in Dig-A-Dino Ball Pits or explore how teeth tell stories in Even Extinct Animals Have Dental Records.

Ages 7 and up get a behind the scenes glimpse of Flinders scientists at the Anchor Court information stand and can ask questions about research and artefacts from around the world.

With two stages featuring live music, dance and spectacular science experiments, wildlife displays and shows and fantastic market stalls, all free including parking, this is set to be a fantabulous fun-filled day for all ages.
