For an establishment next door to the Princes Theatre and just across from the Parliament of Victoria, Spring Street Grocer does very well at conveying that 'small corner store' feel.

Unquestionably a great draw about SSG is it is open till 10pm on weeknights. This is fantastic for a number of reasons. First, while the 'Paris End' of the city is well represented with restaurants, bars and clubs so too is it true for those just after a simple sandwich - but perhaps more tailor made than on offer in Macdonald's or the 7-11 - SSG represents a good option.

With this, the variety of food on offer is excellent. For starters, the gelato. Flavours like watermelon and mint, black sesame and honey and lynchee and jasmine sorbet confirm this is a Gelateria, that goes well beyond the standard vanilla and chocolate flavours.

Further, while a ham-and-cheese toastie is dependable and rightfully beloved, SSG can also prepare a impressive number of distinctive rolls. Whether chopped liver on rye, meatballs provolone, a fish, peas and coleslaw and a number of other combinations that offer some real diversity to the toppings between two pieces of bread.

Alongside this, for those after some goods to take on home most would feel traveling on down to Melbourne Central may be required for grocery shopping - this store shows otherwise. Seasonal fruits, condiments and more are offered in-house. Finally, because SSG is a little bit out-of-the-way for much of the 'after hours' crowd there is a good chance to shop without the perpetual rush and bustle felt elsewhere.

So while you couldn't go wrong grabbing a bite to eat elsewhere in this part of town - or doing some grocery shopping further down the rd in the CBD - SSG does represent a great option in this part of town is the preceding criteria fits the bill.

All up, Spring Street Grocer is a Gelateria, Deli and great little grocery store on Spring Street; and just off Parliament Station. Whether coming or going from the city, it is a great place to call by.
