Aim high- A trip to the snow capped mountains of Hotham
The weekend is already here and spring is the perfect time to step out of the city and go for a pleasant road trip. A trip to Mount Hotham will surely help you preserve a few frosty icy memories this spring.
Why Mt. Hotham? Let me give you a few insights. To start with, everything about mountains and snow is always great. Hotham is located in the Australian Alpine National Park and is only 4.5 hours drive from Melbourne. Beautiful longer days and playful snow makes spring an ideal time to ski and snowboard at Hotham. Last but not least, it is going to be a pure bliss to spend a sunny afternoon with friends and family on one of Hotham's deck bars at The Bird, Zirky's, Swindlers or The Genny watching the sun set over the valley. I hope you now understand why it has to be Hotham.
Before you head out for the trip, make sure you check on the weather conditions and be prepared and all geared with your woollen armoury. Leaving anytime between 5 and 6 pm on a Friday is a good time. You will reach Harrietville at approximately 11 pm depending on the number of stops you make. Hotham is approximately an hour's drive from Harrietville. I suggest spending the night at Harrietville and driving to Hotham in the morning while enjoying the scenic route.
Shady Brook Cottage serves as a perfect place to spend the night. The three cottages and B&B apartment are set on 12 acres of secluded bush and landscaped gardens on the Ovens River. The beautiful setting of the property will blow your mind away and you can expect a very warm and cosy welcome from the owners, John and Anne Atkins.
Once at Hotham, you can indulge in a variety of activities including skiing, snowboarding, snow lifts and many more.
Considering the time you have in hand, the purpose of your trip and your idea of a holiday, you can plan accordingly. From beautiful accommodation and snow gear to an assortment of restaurants and spa packages, you have it all at Mt. Hotham.
