Nothing says spring like bright, floral blooms and at the Australian Botanic Garden that means one thing - the annual Spring Daisy display!

The display features the Western Australian Paper Daisy which is planted en-masse to create a beautiful display of bright and colourful native flowers over spring. As the name suggests, the Paper Daisy is native to Western Australia, where it can be seen flowering in huge expanses over particular parts of the state during spring.

Sydney-siders can enjoy a similar Paper Daisy spectacle at the Australian Botanic Garden at Mount Annan. The garden, featuring pink, white and yellow daisies, covers a total area of more than 2,0000 square metres. The main species you will see on display include Rhodanthe chlorocephala subsp. rosea (Rosy sunray or pink and white everlasting), Rhodanthe manglesii (Pink sunray, Mangles' everlasting), and Schoenia filifolia subsp. subulifolia (Showy everlasting).

As you would expect a lot of hard work goes in to a garden such as this one - in fact it takes the horticultural team at the Australian Botanic Garden three months to get the display ready, from sowing the seeds, covering with netting (to protect from hungry ducks), feeding and watering the plants. It's astounding to hear that over a million seeds were planted this year in order to create this beautiful garden.

Visitors are asked to keep to the pathways which have been designed to allow people to stay on the paths and still look like they are amongst the flower beds. There are even signs on the ground indicating where is the best place to stand or kneel to be surrounded by daisies when taking photos of family and friends. However, despite these features, it's upsetting to see that some sections of the display have been ruined already this year by being trampled by visitors.

The Spring Daisy Display is free to enjoy and open to the public every day from 8am to 5pm. Depending on the weather the daisies will be on display until the end of October. You will find the paper daisies in the Connections Garden, adjacent to the Visitor Centre.

While you are visiting the daisies, there are also plenty of other areas in the Garden to check out - 416 hectares in fact. Why not join a Free Guided Tour , visit the Australian PlantBank or simply enjoy the grounds with a picnic in the gardens.
