If you enjoy free events, walking in the sunshine, stunning flower displays and rolling green lawns then you are bound to enjoy the Royal Botanical Gardens Spring Open Day.

It is their annual bash when the gardens are at their peak and the custodians are happy to show such beauty off in all its flowering glory.

The Growing Friends Group will hold a plant sale where there will be a chance to buy rare plants propagated from Royal Botanic Gardens stock (10am - 3pm  - Inside E Gate on Birdwood Avenue).

It is wonderful when the plants in your garden have such stories behind them. Rather than saying. "I bought it at Bunnings"

There will be free guided tours with the knowledgeable guides, kids' activities, food, entertainment and free family fun. It is also the day they open up lots of the behind the scene venues.

Highlights include the National Herbarium, Tropical Hothouse, Plant Craft Cottage and the Guilfoyle's Volcano water reservoir.

There are 36 hectares of grounds to explore so be sure to pack a picnic hamper.

The Royal Botanic Gardens are one of Victoria's most popular tourist attractions, with over 1.5 million visitors each year.

Melbourne this is your backyard so time to make these gardens your own.

Did anyone go? How was it? Our plans got dropped last minute due to personal reasons, but I think it must have been a great event.
