Large recycled fashion market at Seaworks in Williamstown
Melburnians, it is time to get out of hibernation and dig out your summer gear, because spring has sprung! If you've spring-cleaned your wardrobe and ditched most of your summer wearables, then you need an excuse to refresh your closet with new-to-you pieces from one of Melbourne's largest recycled fashion markets; Melbourne Frock Swap.
The vibrant market housed inside Williamstown's historic Seaworks maritime building on the water's edge of Melbourne's picturesque suburb, is back again for a spring time fashion event that will be filled with bargains for you to wade through.
Don't be fooled by Melbourne Frock Swap's name; although frock swaps may conjure up images of parties where you bring along your unwanted clothes and exchange for other peoples garments, this particular event isn't like that. Melbourne Frock Swap is one of the newest recycled fashion markets in town, where women from all over the city can hire a stall and sell their unwanted clothing for a bit of extra cash. Win-win for the stallholders and for you because you get to take home some high end fashion and vintage bargains for much less than you'd pay retail.
Typically, a Melbourne Frock Swap will offer 70 stalls selling pre-loved dresses, shoes, bags, coats, jackets, jeans, pants, tops and accessories from well-known labels as well as genuine vintage pieces.
Nichola from the Handmakers Factory came along to the winter Melbourne Frock Swap in July, and she will be bringing her Kensington studio back to Williamstown once again this time.
Nichola will introduce a miniature version of her workshop studio, complete with sewing machines for you to mend and alter your newest purchases on site, as well as a DIY fashion kit ready for you to make necklaces, weave and stamp carve! Workshops are $28 or $22 if you book with a friend. Book onto Nichola's workshops HERE (look for the Williamstown listings).
Food vans Nuoc Mama and Big Cook Little Cook will fill hungry bellies, and Caffeine Lab Coffee van will serve up hot beverages to quench your thirst for caffeine.
Spring is certainly in the air, but if the heavens open on Sunday 20 September or rain looks likely, it won't matter one bit because all Melbourne Frock Swap's take place indoors within the spacious old boathouse building. Melbourne Frock Swap will happen in rain, hail or shine, so get the date marked in your diary, and gather your girlfriends for a fun day out shopping for fashion bargains.
Melbourne Frock Swap is located within a short walk from the Williamstown Beach train station if you are catching public transport, otherwise a simple drive from the Williamstown turn off ramp from the Westgate.
