Off to Market We Go
I love a good rural market. These are the markets where you find gems, arts and crafts, true local produce and genuine farmer's markets.
Hurstbridge sits at the junction of Diamond Creek and Arthurs Creek just 28 km north-east of Melbourne's central business district and with a population of just 3,450 is a peaceful interlude from the hustle and bustle of the big city.
Located at Ferguson's Paddock, Arthur's Creek Road, Hurstbridge on the first Sunday of each month, from 8.30 am to 1 pm is the Hurstbridge Market. Focussing on locally made produce, organic fruit and vegetables and simply awesome vendors, the Hurstbridge Market is a great Sunday morning out. There are also food vans, so you come along with an empty bag or two and do the weekly shopping and grab breakfast along the way.
You can reach the Market by car or public transport with a regular train service from Melbourne to Hurstbridge via the Hurstbridge line. The market is a 5 minute walk from the station via Graysharps Road. For train times, go to Metro Trains.
Travelling by car is an easy ride from Melbourne central business district on the Eastern Freeway. Leave the freeway at the Burke Road North exit and follow the Heidelberg signs north to Lower Plenty Road. Enter Route 46 at the turn off to Greensborough Highway and follow through to Hurstbridge. Parking is available off Graysharps Road near the Market.
