There are different kinds of exhibitions in Balmain, ranging from contemporary arts, photographs through to old-time swimwear. What a great opportunity to indulge yourselves into a world of creativity. Adding to this, some of these exhibitions run at the historical buildings, making your experience more interesting.

Balmain is a lovely suburb where you can come over by just taking a short hop across the harbour from the city, or walking up the hill into the village after getting off the ferry at the foot of Darling Street.
Read on to find out more about the exhibitions.

1. History Week September 2012: "Threads"

Presented by the Balmain Association, the Threads exhibition looks at the threads, past and present that contribute to the rich tapestry of Balmain.

Included in the exhibition is a display of precious items, paintings and photos.

You'll find a showcase of old-time swimwear, dating from 1920s to 2000, thanks to the Balmain Swimming and Waterpolo Club, the oldest club in Australia.

Additionally, A Patchwork of Memories is a collection of paintings, presented by the local artist, Jan Wood, which aims to depict Balmain from 1950 to 1970s.

Adding to the exhibition is also a photographic exhibition of the historical threads – personalities, industry and leisure in the 19th century.

When: Saturdays, September 1, 8, 15 and 22, 11.30 am – 4 pm.

Where: The Watch House, 179 Darling Street, Balmain

2. The 'Be Alert, But Not Alarmed' Exhibition

The exhibition presents the paintings and digital works by Sydney artist Guy Porter . The artist's works are interesting and different. One of his works such as I'll Get You A10 Tank Killer, which shows a dragon chasing a fixed-wing aircraft, depicts the humorous side of his work but the subject is indeed serious and thought-provoking.
