No I am not bluffing - there is a place out there called Spring Bluff and it is a heritage listed site between Ipswich and Toowoomba and about now is the best time to go and visit but all year round would be good too.
Spring is delightful in those areas so if you can combine a visit to the gardens of Toowoomba and specifically the Carnival of Flowers held every year, with a visit to the Railway station I think you would have a perfect day planned.
The Spring Bluff Railway station was built in the 1860s. It was a resting point for the trains in the steep ascent from Brisbane to Toowoomba. It was named Spring Bluff after the spring water in the area and the sandstone bluff.
It is probably one of the prettiest Railway Stations you will come across and there is a reason for that. In 1914 Queensland Railways launched a competition to encourage stations to make gardens and grow vegetables. This was taken up by the Station Master and his wife, the gardens were laid and planted and have grown over the years to be colourful and restful to the eye. There was a time that looking after the gardens was part of the duties of railwaymen stationed there. Nowadays the gardens have been expanded, the original buildings have been carefully restored and looked after and a diesel train is also on track to provide short journeys up and down the railway line, which mainly runs during Carnival week.
It is a great place for a family picnic, for train buffs and lovers of lovely gardens. There is definitely something for everyone here. The little cafe has food and refreshments and there is an area for hire for special functions as well just in case you fancied a party or a wedding in this pretty setting.
I was out at Spring Bluff just three weeks ago (for the first time in about 10 years) and it really is beautiful. Also a great spot for photographers and that's what had me out there, giving my new camera a whirl with all the gorgeous spring flowers. A lovely drive and a lovely day out!
My son and his new wife had their wedding photos taken their about 1 month ago. It was dressed up for Carnival of the Flowers and was the perfect backdrop for the images. So many people have asked me where the photos were taken because they look so beautiful!
