Spriggs Drive, Croydon

Spriggs Drive is on the former Croydon Golf Course. Although a newly established area, most gardens are well established.
It starts at Evans Drive, is only 600 metres in length and circles back on itself to form a loop. On the Evans Drive corner is a large park with an expanse of grass, a playground and an undercover picnic shelter with BBQ.
It was on the expanse of grass that several crested pigeons were feeding.
Beyond the park is a fenced, constructed wetland, built to control stormwater runoff. Although surrounded by small trees and shrubs, a small pond was visible but no water birds seen.
None of the housing blocks had front fences which made for close observations of the flora. Abelia and gaura flowers, although predominately white, stood out against their dark foliage.
A hebe bush and a pink salvia added colour to several gardens, as did a solanum plant.
An attractive modern trend with street trees is to plant flora such as bottlebrushes and banksias. Coupled with underground power lines they give the street a welcoming appearance.
A feature of the golf course development is the retaining of a lot of open space. Almost half of the loop of Spriggs Drive has been retained as bushland. It is fenced to protect the flora within. It was in this area that I photographed a distant parrot.
Another feature of this estate is that there are many walkways between houses that lead to more open space.
Many streets have small parking bays to alleviate the need for on street parking.
It would be a very pleasant place to reside or enjoy a short street walk.
