The inaugural Sport Fitness and Health Festival is the latest Festival in Adelaide's pre-Christmas rush of events, bringing a welcome focus on healthy living through activity and eating well.

Held over the weekend of December 7-8 near the rotunda at Elder Park and at the Torrens Parade Ground, the Sport Fitness and Health Festival will have a huge range of displays and activities with appeal for everyone in the family, so be sure to bring the kids along too.

There will be four separate zones: Sports, Fitness, Healthy Living and Combat zones. The Sports zone will include displays from a wide range of sports including baseball, hockey, croquet, yachting, golf and softball. Coffee and lemonade stalls and Bodri's Chimney Cake Station will help to keep your nutrition levels high while you contemplate all the activities.

The Fitness zone will offer information about gyms and health clubs, and if you'd like to test your life insurance policy you can even do some bungee jumping.

The Combat zone will feature demonstrations of judo, Kodokan judo and fencing, but surprisingly the Defence Recruiting people will be located in the sports zone.

The Healthy Living zone will include displays of the latest fitness craze Bokwa, where participants "draw" letters and numbers with their feet while performing an energizing cardio workout routine.

The Sport Fitness and Health Festival will have plenty of things to do for the kids, with Come'n Try activities including rollerskating and interactive healthy cooking demonstrations by Sprout, run by 2012 MasterChef AllStars winners Callum Hahn and Themis Chryssidis.

Squash SA is bringing inflatable squash courts to encourage everyone to have a go, while Thunderbird players will be available to sign autographs, and a croquet area will be set up by the picturesque banks of the River Torrens to introduce Adelaide people to a sport which is tipped to have a new surge of popularity. I'm really keen to see the parkour demonstrations, as the sport looks pretty amazing from what I've seen in video clips.

Of course there will also be plenty of Adelaide food vendors at the festival including my favourite South American street food truck La Chiva .

The Sport Fitness and Health Festival is organised by Sports SA, and the gold coin admission charge will benefit the #8206 ;">Kickstart for Kids charity which helps disadvantaged school children in South Australia.

For more information about the Sport Fitness and Health Festival see their website . It has a list of the exhibitors who are currently locked in, and a map of the location of the various zones.

Most of the stalls in Elder Park are grouped around the rotunda, so after you have seen them all it's just a short walk to pop down to see what the fancy new Adelaide Oval looks like .
