What do you do with a collection of award-winning ghostly tales? Read them around a campfire on a winter night! On August 26 the KSP Writers Centre will be doing just that at its second annual Spooky Stories fundraising evening. This family-friendly event also features soup, hot chocolate, marshmallows to toast on the firepit, ghostly games and more.


Spooky Stories night is held in the grounds of the Centre's heritage-listed and possibly haunted house. Writer Katharine Susannah Prichard, known as the "red witch of Greenmount", lived there for many years until her death in 1969. Guests who stay there as part of the Centre's Writer in Residence program have sometimes reported hearing footsteps in the night and the sense of a friendly presence.

Visitors on Spooky Stories night are unlikely to see ghosts but they will hear the prize-winning tales from the KSP Ghost Story competition. After that, anyone who has a scary story is invited to share it with the audience. Youngsters and the young at heart can dress up to add to the fun with prizes for the scariest costume.


Ghosts don't get hungry but people do. Fortunately the ticket price includes (while stocks last): sinister pumpkin soup, crippling curry puffs, frightening fresh rolls, hair-raising hot chocolate, macabre marshmallows, spine-tingling sweets, terrifying tea and creepy coffee.


Spooky Stories begins at 6:00 pm with a lockout time from 8.30-9.30 pm where only adults over 18 are allowed to stay and hear some really terrifying tales.

Note: this event is not suitable for children under the age of six and youngsters under 18 must be supervised. BYO drinks, torch and extra marshmallows and wear warm clothes.

KSP Writers Centre is located at 11 Old York Road, Greenmount. Look for the 'Katharine's Place' wooden plaque sign and bright green letterbox out front.
