Spirit of Gold Coast Whale Watching

We decided to enjoy the wonderful whale season that takes place from June to November, literally an hour from our house. We watched the whales at Gold Coast.
Many believe that the Gold Coast is the best place for whale watching because of its close location to the continental shelf. Humpback whales always travel their 10,000 km trip to give birth inside the continental shelf to protect themselves and their calves from the dangerous orca "Killer" whales, which is one of their personal greatest predators.
While going out on the boat we had birds fly with us. It was like a sea gull treadmill. I had never been so close to a bird flying for so long. It was amazing to watch their body movements at such a close range.
We learned a lot on the boat. If you ever are thinking about going, I would highly recommend

Humpback whales, the fifth largest whales, can grow to be 15-18 metres long, weigh anywhere from 27-45 tons, and live 45-50 years. Also, with this mammal it is expected for the females to be larger than the males.
Some interesting facts we learned were that whales are born tail fluke first, and each tail fluke is like their individual fingerprint. No two flukes are alike. When a calf is born it can weight 1-1.5 tons and be 2-3 meters long. If that isn't hard enough on the mother, the calf can drink 600 liters of the mother's milk, which is a toothpaste consistency, everyday.
Something else I did not know is each whale has two blowholes. One for each lung.
So, needless to say, a good time was had by all. A lot was learned, pictures were really hard to get, and we can't wait to go back watching for whales.
