Theresa Rebeck once said: "Theatre, film, and television, are all modes of storytelling." And she should know, as writer for TV shows like Brooklyn Bridge, Dream On and NYPD Blue as well as co-authoring the movie Harriet the Spy and writing the successful stage play Spike Heels, which is coming to Melville Theatre this September.

Spike Heels is about power. The power of men over women, teachers over pupils, lawyers over the system and the changing expectations of men and women in an era of feminist endeavour.

Written in 1990, Spike Heels is as relevant today as it was then in exploring sexual harassment and control.

Director Trevor Dhu says: "Spike Heels is similar to Pygmalion and My Fair Lady in that it looks at an uneducated, disadvantaged woman who can learn and gain from a beneficiary male."

The play is a serious one, exploring serious themes. It also contains strong language and sexual references, which jas presented some challenges for the director.

Spike Heels runs from the 12th of September until the 27th with one matinee on the 21st. Tickets are $20 ($15 concession) and may be booked by ringing 9330 4565 on online .

Melville Theatre is on the corner of Stock Road and Canning highway, Palmyra.
