About the Hunger Project Australia
The Hunger Project have a mission to end hunger and poverty by bringing about "sustainable, grassroots, women-centered strategies and advocating for their widespread adoption in countries throughout the world."
They believe it is possible to end hunger, and that this generation is able to end it once and for all. However, in their experience, people who live in hunger are not the problem – they are the solution. They look on it as not seeing a billion mouths to feed but seeing a billion human beings, who are enterprising and resilient. The idea is therefore to "unlock their capacity, creativity and leadership" in order that they will be able to end their own hunger. And this is what The Hunger Project Australia strive for.
The Hunger Project empowers people who live in rural villages in Africa, India, Bangladesh and Latin America to end their own hunger. They actually reach out to more than 18 million people who are virtually turning over a new leaf together with their families and their communities, and thus bringing about the end to hunger.
The Hunger Project Australia basically do the following:
They reach 16.1 million people in 13,000 rural, remote villages in Africa, India and Bangladesh
They have trained 395,000 local volunteer leaders so that each dollar invested in their efforts has a multiplier effect
Almost half a million people across Africa now live in self-reliant communities, and this has been brought about and made possible in partnership with The Hunger Project
All proceeds from the CitySwoon speed dating event will go to The Hunger Project Australia. For more information on HPA, go to this
