Spectrum Now Festival – Exhibition by Brad Robson

In comparison to other developed nation, Australia is a young country. Nevertheless this country had produced world-class artists that we immensely been proud off and continually to do so.

The likes of George Lambert , Sydney Long , and Thea Proctor to name a few, were great artists from the 1800.

These artists had long been gone but their artworks are still remembered, admired by their generation and to those that followed. Their paintings can still be viewed in Art Galleries, like S. H Ervin Gallery

Indeed here we are in the 20th century and once again have been blessed with diverse artists including an exceptionally young man that has earned multiple accolades worldwide in the name of Brad Robson

Brad was born in Sydney. He is a mural artist and a contemporary painter. At a young age of 39, his accomplishment is recognised worldwide. He has knowledge, vast experiences and had been granted accolades that most artists would struggle to achieve in their lifetime.

At a young age of 19, he took an opportunity and launched himself as a freelance graphic designer.

While completing his studies in Graphic Design and Advertising, this self-taught artist gravitated himself to free form expression, as opposed to the hum drum click of the mouse.

In 2011 he completed his residency in Illustration and Visual Storytelling at the School of Visual Arts in New York. It was followed by an exhibition in Oxford Street, Sydney, NSW in March 2012 - Platform 72. In September of the same year he showcased his work in Art EXPO at Hordern Pavilion, Sydney, NSW.
Further exhibition are as follows.
2013 - July: "Run, Rabit, Run" Group show, Westside Gallery, NYC
2013 - July: "New Works" Solo show, Kaleidoscope Gallery, Sydney
2013 - March/April: "Blindsight" Solo Exhibition, Brooklyn Gallery, NY
2013 - March: "To Deny Our Nothingness" Group show, Gallery Brooklyn, NY
2014 - December: "Together Alone" Solo show, Create Or Die, Sydney. NSW
2013 - February: "33 Degress" Group Show, Kaleidoscope, Sydney, NSW

His advocacy on the growth of the Australian arts community saw him greatly involved on projects, whilst owning an art gallery in Sydney's Chippendale Creative Precinct.

In June last year, Rob founded Laneway Projects – an urban renewal project bringing art to the streets of Sydney.

Thereby his artwork can also be seen in a number of bars and local cafes around Sydney, in the offices of SBS Studios in Artarmon and Sydney's Luna Park.

He has been described as intuitive, unfettered and free. Brad's art is an obvious visual of what it means to be present. The key influences on his painting are urban spaces, industrial landscapes and pop culture.

Fast forward to now and Sydneysiders once again have the opportunity to view Brad's larger than life art.

I had an enviable task of attending Brad's exhibition which was launched on the 11th of March. As part of Spectrum Festival, Three Williams Cafe is showcasing the paintings of this charismatic artist. The cafe which is synonymous for its gastronomically delightful morsels, is situated in an urban trendsetting address.

Its walls proudly display the largest and most progressive oil painting of this world renowned artist. It is a partnership that we rarely see. A grand café partnered with an avant garde artist is a rare treat.

There is a clever use of lead lighting to highlight the paintings and as the colours changes, different kind of stories are portrayed. You can virtually stare at it and let your imagination run wild.

Brad's use of squeegees, and mostly unorthodox tools employing loose large strokes and bold contrast is obvious on this painting.

The rest of his oil paintings are equally stunning. The likes of Brad who create art through instinct, let the work develop and finally grow into a magnificent piece.

It's comparable to a writer that can turn words that doesn't seem to make sense into a grandeur paragraph. In a writer's point of view, it is poetry, a statement of art and love for words no other can compare.

Indeed I am awakened to such artistry that I will never see colours the same way again.

It was a delight to meet Brad. Despite his achievements he remained humble and is graceful as he mingles with the crowd.

The drinks and canapés flowed, the audience looked thrilled and the conversation between guests who came from all walks of life were full of excitement.

So, what are you waiting for? Head to Three Williams Cafe. Entry is free. The café also offers affordable and delectable dishes for you to enjoy. Brad's art exhibit will be on show from the 11th of March for three to six weeks or until sold out.

We should enjoy the decadence that we rarely see in our city. It will be a dining experience that we will treasure and an honour for being a part of. A celebration of an engaging artist, a celebration of Brad Robson.

Three Williams Cafe' is located at 613a Elizabeth Street, Sydney. Its doors open from 7am to 4pm daily — Kitchen closes at 3pm.

The café cater to large and small groups.
