Renoir and Monet to Matisse

16th and 17th of April 2016

Pierre-Auguste Renoir is known and loved for his impressionist paintings of Paris. These paintings count among the world's favourites. Renoir, however, grew tired of this style and changed course. This stunning film – based on the remarkable collection of 181 Renoirs at the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia – examines the direction he then took and why it provokes such extreme reactions right up to today. The film is a fresh new biography of this artistic giant but more than that it uncovers a rarely told story that places Renoir as a critical link between the old and the new.

The Mikado Operas by the English National Opera

16th and 17th of April 2016

Nanki-Poo loves Yum-Yum. Just one snag. She's betrothed to Ko-Ko, the new Lord High Executioner. And Ko-Ko needs to find someone to execute – chop chop! Otherwise, it's his own neck on the block. Maybe Ko-Ko and Nanki-Poo can come to some arrangement… without anyone losing their head? Set in an ever-so English 1930s seaside hotel, Jonathan Miller's Marx Brothers-inspired song-and-dance Mikado is a popular hit with audiences of all ages.

Leonardo Da Vinci

23rd and 24th of April 2016

At the end of the fifteenth century, Leonardo da Vinci spent eighteen years in Milan – a period that would leave a lasting impression on the city. In Spring 2015, Milan paid tribute to Leonardo by holding a large exhibition at the Palazzo Reale. Based on this stunning exhibition, Leonardo da Vinci – The Genius in Milan uses a combination of documentary interviews and mise-en-scènes to tell the story of the artist's world and the treasures he left us, against the stunning backdrop of Leonardo's Milan. Drawing upon Leonardo's legendary work as an artist, architect and scientist, audiences will be immersed in the story of Leonardo the man, in the context of what was a truly legendary period in the city's history, and for the history of art.
