Every day is a special esoteric day somewhere in the world. We know you've already got a lot to celebrate in December, so we've collated some of the best. From bacon to baked goods to beer, what can we say except you're welcome?
8 December
Part drink purveyor, part therapist, bartenders might not have made the 'essential worker' list in 2020, but every elbow lifter knows how essential they really are. Show your respects on National Bartender Appreciation Day by trying one of Brisbane's
best bars ,
best cocktails , a
secret hidey hole , or even a
sports bar .
In the spirit of the day, you might consider tipping your bartender, even though we don't do that in Australia.
8 December
For non-drinkers, 8 December is also Brownie Day. The humble brownie was invented by an American baker in the 19th century when customers requested something that was cakier than a biscuit, but more biscuity than a cake.

Dello Mano serves the best brownies in Brisbane.
9 December
Une grand merci pour les Francais on National Pastry Day. Treat yourself to a
high tea , grab something from a
French patisserie , or try one of
these simple recipes .
11 December
An authentic bagel is first boiled then baked, which gives the bagel its characteristic crunchy outer crust. A side effect of this method is that bagels produce less crumbs, making them a popular on-the-go meal.
Try
NYC Bagel Deli or
Bagels n Banter for your fix on Bagel Day.
16 December
There's only one place to go on Chocolate Covered Anything Day - Max Brenner at [LINK=https://www.weekendnotes.com/max-brenner-chocolate-bar-south-bank/]South Bank[/LINK.
17 December
We all know that maple syrup tastes great with
pancakes , but Maple Syrup Day is a great excuse to try some experiments. How does
maple espresso bacon or
French toast with whiskey maple syrup sound?
30 December
Hold on to that bacon from maple syrup day - you're going to need it on National Bacon Day. Equally delicious as a flavour base or on its own, bacon is super versatile. Shannon Meyerkort has compiled some of its more... unusual uses
here .
