SpeakINK

Singaporeans face a perennial problem - they are always accused of being a UN. Not United Nations, but UNhappy, UNcreative and UNwilling to speak.

Monsters Under the Bed (MUTB) is a Singaporean creative writing agency for kids. Since 2006, its been working hard to debunk myths about Singaporeans and its PRs to be anything but that.

Its Imagination and Knowledge workshop series is to invigorate and inspire from the ground up.

"Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand." Albert Einstein

The MUTBsters decided to start young and work with kids 8 to 12 years old - teaching them how to speak and write persuasively at their SpeakINK workshop.

This 3 day long workshop will be focused on helping children to find their own voice, thus developing eloquence and self-confidence - essential life skills.

Modules taught in the workshop includes:
Basics of persuasive writing,
3 ways to convince a reader,
How to outline an argument,
How to give a speech,
How to start a conversation, and
How to sound more convincing.

All participants will walk home with a manuscript copy of their persuasive writing. Professional video editing will be provided. Parents are also invited to attend the programme on the last day of the workshop to hear their children speak in front of a live audience.

The speakers at the event include Adan Jimenez, co-writer of the popular Sherlock Sam book series; Eugene Tay, webTV host of Singapore's Most Haunted; and Ryan Ong, editor of MoneySmart.sg.

The guest speaker is Lavinia Tan, radio DJ from Lush 995.

Beware that your child may write that proposal after ... asking you for more allowance.

"Imagination does not become great until human beings, given the courage and the strength, use it to create." ― Maria Montessori
