This Autumn, The Stirling Players present a strictly limited season of the modern classic Speaking in Tongues by critically acclaimed Australian playwright and screenwriter Andrew Bovell. Tickets are now on sale - 8 performances only.
The AWGIE award-winning play Speaking in Tongues inspired the Australian drama Lantana and follows nine different characters (played by four talented actors) who are all connected by affairs and infidelities.
A lover returns from the past and a husband doesn't answer the phone.
A woman disappears and a neighbour is the prime suspect …
Contracts are broken between intimates and powerful bonds are formed between strangers.
Directed by Geoff Brittain, Speaking in Tongues is a masterful fast moving drama of betrayal, lust and love. Since premiering at the SBW Stables in Griffin Theatre's 1996 season, the play has been performed around Europe and the US.
Director Geoff Brittain says he chose the play as he likes Bovell's writing, and because it is an Australian play, and "we don't do enough Australian plays in Australia, especially in community theatre".
"I like Bovell's stories and ideas and the way he writes," he says. "You never know until the end of the play what will happen."
Don't miss the upcoming Stirling Players production of Speaking in Tongues. As the evocative mystery unravels, audiences will be immersed in this sophisticated and compelling tale of disconnection between individuals, partners and communities.
