Shining out from the heart of Chapel Street is Speakeasy Kitchen Bar . Bursting with originality, Speakeasy has a delightful ménage of back alley charm and quirky class.



The term 'speakeasy' was coined in the 1920's as a reference to establishments that sold alcohol illegally. You won't find any illegal alcohol here, but you will find a well stocked bar and lively kitchen. Flames dance and dazzle from the open kitchen as talented chefs fry fish and sear sirloin.



With a vibrantly varied menu, you'll find it difficult to decide on your dish of the day. Delicious Duke's Coffee has bittersweet dark chocolate notes with a thick and rich mouth feel. Complete with milk that's clearly textured by a skilled hand, this is definitely a cuppa to sit and savour.



Speakeasy outdoor area tells a completely different story to its inside counterpart. Every Sunday, Speakeasy back bar becomes New York Cats Burger Bar, a chilled out open-air environment where you can relax-to-the-max. In the background, what appear to be the tops of buildings are actually cleverly painted rooftops. These carefully crafted spray pieces provide somewhat of an old school city sky-rise sensation. New York Cats is only open Sundays 3pm till late, so avoid disappointment by looking for it any other day of the week.



This little nook fits in like family with the street art/hole in the wall café scene that is becoming a Melbourne trademark.
One theme that does carry though from the inside out is the funky stylishness that exudes from all areas of Speakeasy.
