Like no dessert bar I've ever been to, try it for yourself
The city is always filled with all types of people strolling the streets, driving, with friends, that special someone or family but after dark, there are few places open. The shops shut, people go home and parking spots increase. Clubs and cocktail bars open their doors but where do you grab a bite to eat, a coffee or dessert at 10pm at night. The answer, Spats Cafe .
Dessert bars are a popular place to meet to get that late night sugar and coffee fix and I tried out one I haven't been to before, located on King William Rd in Goodwood. Couples, friends and groups of people were enjoying coffee, a chat and delicious desserts in this unique and cosy must-visit coffee lounge.
The interior was quaint and interesting with red walls, wallpaper and black touches. Antique lamp shades and chandeliers filled the room with dim lighting, while you sit in intimate, private booth seating. There's an upstairs area and extra rooms for large groups that I did not see - it was like no dessert bar I had ever been to.
The menu caters for all with light meals, main meals and desserts. You can order everything from mussels to steaks to crepes.
A few options stood out to me on their menu. The Spats tasting platter looked amazing. It included two homemade dips with cheeses, adele blue, hamilton brie, gouda and Jarlsberg, served with soft bread, crackers and veggie nibbles and they suggest you enjoy this with a dessert wine. The grilled chicken served with chips, fresh salad, mushroom sauce also looked like a great option but I felt like a coffee, so I flicked to the dessert pages that were filled with fabulous options that made my decision hard. I ended up getting the banana and walnut crepes, served with caramelised banana, toasted walnuts, maple syrup, ice-cream and cream. My friend, who I was dining with, ordered the banana crepes, served with fresh banana, chocolate sauce, cream and ice-cream.
A large selection of drinks are offered with cocktails, beers, wines and ciders, pots of tea with some interesting flavours like their Rocky Road tea, which resembles the flavours of chocolate rocky road. They sell shakes, iced coffee, iced chocolate, Baileys iced drinks and liquor coffee. I had a latte made with 100%AA Arabica coffee beans.
