It's a shame that daring duo Sparrow-Folk's show
SuBIRDia Renovated is on such a short run at the Butterfly Club, as it means that nowhere near enough people will get to experience their wacky brand of comedy.
Sparrow-Folk is the brainchild of best friends Fox (Catherine Crowley) and Lark (Juliet Moody). The award winning pair has received multiple 5-star show reviews, and it's easy to see why.
In this show, Fox and Lark impart their 'helpful' tips on how to renovate your life. But lest you think this is going to turn the show into some heavy philosophical piece, I will explain that their list of tips include such questionable wisdom as 'be yourself', 'don't be yourself', 'stand out', 'don't stand out'. Each tip is illustrated with at least one song (sometimes supported with a ukulele), a few sharp one-liners and often a dance as well.
Sparrow-Folk's style is bold and sassy and by their own admission, they are not afraid to 'over-share' when it comes to a range of taboo subjects. But their material is delivered in such a confident, cheeky and slightly daggy way that the result is hilarious.
Be warned that the audience definitely becomes involved in this show. Don't think you'll be safe hiding down the back! As is often the case, the audience participation pieces are amongst the highlights of the show.
The final section of the show, in which the Sparrow-Folk encourage us to - shall we say - embrace our 'outer womanhood', is hilarious. Demonstrating their cabaret versatility, Fox and Lark use puppets to great effect to plead their case.
Expect full frontal nudity (sort of), twerking, audience abuse (in a nice way); it's anything goes in this funny and engaging romp. This clip will give you a taste of what to expect.
