The Spanish Language Fiesta celebrates not just all things Spanish but appropriately honours Miguel de Cervantes , regarded as the greatest writer in the Spanish language. His influence on the language so great, it oten lent itself to be known as 'the language of Cervantes'. Born in the mid 1500s, he's most recognised as the novelist who wrote the famous Don Quixote, which is one of the most translated novels in the world.

This famous author will be honoured on Saturday 7 April 2018 from 11am to 4pm at the Spanish Language Fiesta celebrations in the iconic laneway that is George Johnson Lane, North Melbourne. Entry is free.


Though commemorating the life and death of Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, this event is nothing short of the colours and vibrancy we associate with Spanish music, dancing, art and literature, all of which will be in the laneway. It's definitely a fun event for the whole family, and a space to engage, interact and learn more about Spanish and Latin American traditions.

On a deeper level, it's also a conversation platform for the Spanish people in Melbourne to explore concerns over loss of tradition, disconnection from their culture, and what the cost is of resettling in their new home. Key organisations will be present, supporting the Spanish speaking population through acknowledgement, celebration, educational activities and authentic cuisine.

Why not enjoy a fun and relaxed session in the free Spanish Introduction Class run by Farolito Spanish Language School for absolute beginners and adults and teens age 12 plus. Head for North Melbourne Library on Sat 7 April fro 11am to 12pm. Bookings are essential. Both workshop and intro class get you out in time to enjoy the Fiesta!
