The festival kicks off with Opening Night Film Champions. A feel-good film that smashed box office records in Spain it stars Javier Gutiérrez as Marco, an ambitious and arrogant basketball coach. He's been sentenced to community service and forced to train a team of people with a range of mental disabilities. With a slew of endearing characters, this ultimate feel-good film will leave you grinning from ear to ear.

Super Crazy is a Cine Latino Special Event with Pilar going from one end of the spectrum where nothing good ever seems to happen to her, to the other end when she goes Re Loca after taking a remedy that makes her unable to stop speaking her mind. From a world turned upside down to feeling completely revitalised, saying and doing anything and everything that goes through her mind, Pilar will have to deal with the toll of her newfound brutal honesty.

Hispanic Night is a luxurious 3-course Hispanic evening with drinks and Spanish & Latin canapés on arrival. This is followed by the screening of My Masterpiece with a main and dessert, if you're lucky enough to be at Palace Central Platinum in Sydney. My Masterpiece, the Spanish-Argentinean crowd-pleasing comedy-drama follows the complex relationship of a cranky painter and a crafty gallery owner in Buenos Aires. They've worked with each other for a very long time, from successful days to the less than successful present. An accident binds them close again, triggering a string of forgeries, friendships and fatalities with a twist you could not anticipate.

The Moro Olive Oil Appreciation Session is a Masterclass; a Moro olive Oil appreciation session after the screening of the delectable documentary Virgin and Extra: Jaén, The Land of the Olive Oil. Arguably the most essential ingredient of the Mediterranean diet, olive oil is a way of life in the stunning southern Spanish city of Jaén. With precision and emotion, you'll learn about the pivotal role the olive oil played in challenges raised by radical changes. Hear from the chefs and the people from the olive groves, and learn about the life cycle of olive oil from tree to table. Share the vibrant spirit and culture surrounding the cultivation of olives and oil production in the largest producing region in the world.

Featuring 32 films including special presentations and events, innovative documentaries and more, if you happen to be in Victoria, enjoy a flamenco performance on Flamenco Night, Friday 3 May in the Palace Balwyn foyer before the screening of Peret: The King of the Gypsy Rumba. It's sangrias and coronas at 5.30pm before the performance at 6.30pm and the screening at 6.45pm. For the rest of New Spanish Cinema, you'll find an offering of fifteen films to choose from.

The festival also shines a Spotlight On Female Directors from Spain and Latin America with a selection of 11 films directed by women. From well-known established directors to fresh new voices, enjoy the strong directing talent of some of the most exciting filmmakers. Yuli in particular seems to be selling fast with a sold-out event already. Starring the dancer himself, it's an extraordinary biopic of a legendary Cuban dancer (Carlos Acosta); the first black dancer to perform some of the most famous ballet roles.

This year, the Moro Spanish Film Festival collaborates with Cine Latino to bring you fifteen new films from the Latin American region, including the special event for Argentinean box office hit Super Crazy as aforementioned. There's a gamut of comedy, thrillers, and dramas that tells the story of human trafficking and the mafia which preys on the victims, to the life of a chambermaid at a luxurious Mexico City hotel and more.

If you're after something a little more political, Special Presentation The Realm should fit the bill. It's an unmissable hit political thriller which was presented every major award at ceremonies across Spain, including the Goyas, Feroz and Cinema Writers Circle.

Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown brings the Festival to a close with a digital restoration of Pedro Almodóvar's 1988 firecracker comedy. One of the biggest box-office hits in Spanish history, this sexy romp about obsessive love helped launch the careers of Pedro and its stars Maura and Banderas who need no introduction. Eccentric characters and scenarios result in a delightful and deliriously deranged comedy for you to enjoy.
