Don't drive past Space2B Social Design's unassuming street front; stop in and have a look around Tuesdays to Fridays 10am to 5pm and Saturdays 10am to 2pm. There's a lot of incredible activities going on behind the unassuming facade. It's a great place to shop for gifts as well, as you're bound to find something unique, something a little different, and lovingly handmade by incredible creatives. Stay in touch with them via social media eg. website, Instagram etc. and stay in the loop. You can also join their Facebook Group.

In February 2023, there are a few interesting events as follows at 144 Chapel St, St Kilda.

Mon 13 Feb 11am (till Mon 20 Mar) - 3D Clay-Relief $120 ($60 Concession) for 6 sessions - 2hrs 30 mins per session. Book here. This is a hands-workshop for artists and creatives with Iranian artist Leila Ashtiani.
Thu 16 Feb 11am-1.30pm - Japanese Sashiko (mending) Workshop $35. Book here. Learn the art of Japanese mending and stitching at this 2 hours 30 mins session with talented Japanese sewer Maoko Carroll.

Dinner with Friends is another popular event held at Space2b. Each month they host an exclusive cultural dinner with a special guest cook or chef so you can immerse yourself in the country's unique culture while enjoying food from the chosen country.

Thu 23 Feb 6.30pm - Afghanistan Dinner with Friends - Book $58 per head here and enjoy a feast of staple Afghan food accompanied by dairy products, nuts and native vegetables. Think Kofta, Kabuli Pulow and more.
Thu 27 Apr 6.30pm - Eid Dinner with Friends - $50 per head, Bookings not available yet, but you can stay in touch here. Put the date in your diary and revisit the link closer to date in April. An important event in the Islamic calendar, enjoy traditional Eid savoury and sweet traditional fare.

Be sure to follow the links given for all workshops and dinners for complete information about the events.

There's much you can check out online as well. Apart from a list of unique gifts you can shop for under many categories you'll find via the given link eg. jewellery, clothing, home and living, baskets, Australiana, toys and so on, you can also visit the Art Gallery to pick up something original and beautiful to adorn your walls.

Aside from subscribing, Facebook is great for updates and interesting snippets, and to meet some of the creatives like Ada. She is part of the Space2b Manufacture hub, making many of the lovely products they sell. She is an incredible designer and has her own brand too, making intricate wedding dresses and anything else you might want her to sew. You'll see images of her repurposed sustainable practice in her denim bum bag and cross-body bag

Go beyond February and look forward to the famous Laneway Market presented by Jorge and Susana of Urban Creatives, and make a booking if you want to be a stallholder. Put the date in your diary - Sunday 26 March 2023 from 10am to 3pm at Space2b (image of laneway at 144 Chapel St, St Kilda in above pic) and come along and celebrate cultural diversity week at this fantastic market. You'll find a host of multicultural makers, designers, artists and perhaps even you.

Speaking of the laneway image above, yes, there is a Space2b Café which is currently under new management with a new cultural cuisine. It operates from Wed-Fri 9am-2pm and Sat-Sun 9am-4pm. Look forward to Flavours of Syria, bringing you flavours of the Middle East serving mezza, a term that refers to a generous spread of small dishes usually eaten without cutlery, using flat bread, lettuce or vine leaves to scoop up dips or to wrap portions of colourful salads. This includes all-day breakfast, lunch, and coffee from local small batch roasters, Elwood Coffee Roasters with a continental smile.

More than meets the eye, do browse Space2b's website and learn more about them and the programs they run that go beyond shopping, eating, exhibitions and workshops.
