Space2B, in case you have not heard, is a not-for-profit social enterprise that does fantastic work with and for newly arrived refugees and immigrants.Their events create opportunities for people in the community to connect, learn from each other and enjoy being together with people from all over the world. Refugees and recent immigrants tell stories not just through words but also through art, craft, dance and song.
Here is a chance to experience some of that - at the Space2B Laneway Market Festival on March 24th, 2019.There will be over 20 stalls of Australian designed products and beautiful gifts from local established and new migrant designers and artists. As you wonder through the market, perhaps chatting and buying some of the lovely products, there will be lots of colour, laughter, music and of course, food.
If you would like to try something a bit different, you can also book into the African Headwrap Workshop where you can learn how to confidently wear a headwrap. Feel free to bring your own scarf or scarves will be available and also on sale. Book your place here for $15 a ticket.
Or you could learn some new African, Indian and Brazilian dance steps with Nehanda, Varsha and Alba at the Dance workshop. You can then use your new found rhythm to join in the dance around the market. This workshop is free but you do need to register here
In addition, live music, face and henna painting,an art exhibition called Spoken and connecting with the Space2B community will make for a great fun day out supporting an important social enterprise.
Stop Press A poetry competition has also been added just recently , whereby local schools have been invited to write poems about settling in a new home which will include the message of acceptance and respect. Poems have been judged by a group of spoken word poets. The ten top poems will become part of a mural by the well-loved street artists BeFree & Suki.
There are lots of fun things to look forward to at this unique Laneway Market Festival so make sure you are part of it!'.
