Are you a budding writer? Do you enjoy creating worlds and characters and taking readers on journeys? If so, this new competition may be just the one for you!

Spirit of Youth Awards (SOYA) has been the leading grants program for emerging creative talent for over eight years. They are constantly putting on competitions for artists of all types - writers, gamers, animators, cartoonists, directors, etc. and they offer excellent prizes and opportunities for the competition winners.

The competition I'm telling you of today is for the writers of the creative world. SOYA is calling the writers and all styles are welcome: short stories, essays, poetry, prose, journalism, spoken word, lyrics, playwriting, fiction, fact, novel excerpts and scripts.

So, if you are interested in getting your creative juices flowing or if there's a story that you've written that you'd love to share, this is the perfect opportunity. And if you're not interested yet, just listen to what's in store for the winner.

%%"The Qantas Spirit of Youth Awards offers writers aged 30 and under the chance to accelerate their creative careers with a ticket to anywhere in 2013 – $5,000 in Qantas flights to see you jet away to where inspiration and opportunity dictate. You'll also be offered a professional mentorship with author and Director of the Melbourne Writers Festival Lisa Dempster, and did we mention $5,000 cash?!"

They're excellent rewards for the lucky winner. So, if you're a writer of any kind - and I'm guessing there's plenty of those on this website - and this has tickled your fancy, head on over to the SOYA website , join and enter for your chance to win BIG,

You may enter as many pieces as you'd like - a whole portfolio if you fancy. Just be sure to tick the 'written word' category before you publish any work so the judges of this particular competition can see it. Happy writing! May the odds be ever in your favour.

%%*Entry is open to creatives aged 18 -30.
