Visit the Sovereign Hill this Autumn and experience a period in Australian history that defined our country. Be transported back to the past during the Gold Rush, which, according to the New South Wales State Library, transformed former convict colonies into modern cities with an influx of free emigrants in the latter half of the nineteenth century. The Gold Rush, according to Tom Goodwin of the Australian National University, brought substantial wealth to Australian shores as an export, stimulated secondary industries, drove population growth and restructured the manufacturing sector. The Gold Rush also helped shape Australia's socio-political climate. It provided better economic wages for the working class.

At Sovereign Hill, it is like stepping into a time machine, and in an instant, you'd be in the Gold Rush-era Ballarat, where you can see for yourself and experience life as it was in the past, from the dirt road that billows dust as a horse-drawn carriage pass by, to the gold diggers' quarters and makeshift tents. You can even try gold panning!

These photos will give you an idea of what it is like to be in Sovereign Hill. It is a theme park with a grain of truth and a lot of history. When you come to visit, check out the Australian Centre for Gold Rush Collections too. It used to be the Gold Museum which will re-open by mid-2022.

A great experience for the young and old, no wonder school groups have excursions there to see some living history.
