I guess we can agree with Souvlaki Hut's slogan, "All Wrapped Up". Sadly, in 2011 we saw the disappearance of many of the Souvlaki Hut stores around Australia. This was the result of the sale of the Souvlaki Hut franchise system, with some stores being officially transferred under the sale agreement to the new owner, the Astera Consortium. Therefore, some of the stores were not sold in the agreement to Astera Consortium and now trade under completely different names and menus.
Luckily enough, the Hoppers Crossing Souvlaki Hut was no affected by this change in ownership. The Hoppers Crossing store still sells all the regular Souvlaki Hut favourites. These include a variety of souvlakis, Burger Slammers (beef pattie souvlaki), salads and lamb, beef or chicken platters.
I decided to visit the Hoppers Crossing store over the weekend. I chose to go with my usual favourite; Original Burger Slammer, with regular chilli chips and a drink. Now Souvlaki Hut sells chilli chips, which are very similar to Nandos Peri Peri Salt chips. The Original Burger Slammer includes their famous soft, doughy souvlaki flat bread, tzatziki sauce, tomato, lettuce, onion and their delicious, lightly seasoned (with herbs and garlic) beef pattie. I asked for no onion, as I have found in the past they always put too much. Also, I added tasty cheese and haloumi cheese (cannot have a burger without cheese). The Burger Slammer was delicious. Actually, I do not think I have ever had a Burger Slammer or Souvlaki from the Hoppers Crossing store and not enjoyed it.
