The South West MudFest was held in 2017on Saturday 1 July. Scheduled for July next year (specific dates yet to decided on) this annual event is a must try for everyone of all ages and athletic abilities.
The event which is held at the Bootleg Brewery, located just an hour of out Bunbury, offers three courses; a 12km course for those wanting to push themselves, a 5km course and of course a kiddies course for the little ones.
Participants are encouraged to help each other through the course. From verbal support, to little boosts over obstacles, everyone seems to abide by this rule which creates a super inclusive and fun event. Starting with a group warm-up, the participants are then left to navigate the course at their own pace. The obstacles are slightly different year to year but favorites such as the ice bucket and A-frames remain.

For those looking for a competition, I perhaps wouldn't recommend this event as the focus is on community and support.
After completing the course hot showers, burgers and drinks are provided. The showers are much needed to clean all the mud and to also get warm! I will warn that the cold weather combined with obstacles such as the ice bucket means everyone is particularly chilly by the end of the course, though My team mates and I agreed that the cold was worth the satisfaction of completing the course.
I encourage all of you to give it a go next year.
