First of all, Southside Market co-founder and Pleasure, Little Treasure designer Anne Freeman, will be on hand to help you create the perfect Spring Racing Carnival outfit. Freeeman will be judging the prestigious Myer Fashions on the Field Men's Racewear competition on AAMI Victoria Derby Day this year and her position on the judges' panel is thanks to her inclusion in the 50 years of Fashions on the Field exhibition at the National Sports Museum.
She explains "I started entering Fashions on the Field competitions in the late 1990's when I was working for a Melbourne Milliner. It was just an excuse to design and make an outfit and get dressed up but I found myself winning several times! The VRC wanted to include my outfits in the exhibition because I made my own outfits often used recycled materials and vintage patterns. And although that kind of practice is very much in vogue now, I suppose 12 years ago it was kind of unique."
At the forthcoming Spring Fashion edition of the Southside Market on Saturday 27 October, there will be a special emphasis on up-coming designer and vintage fashion and hand-made, one-off millinery creations from a range of designers - including Freeman's own millinery label Pleasure, Little Treasure and Melbourne milliner Alex Sorensen's label Nesnerosa.
