The Southern Rockhounds hold their Gem, Mineral and Craft fair annually on the first weekend in November. If you're a collector, enjoy a bit of crystal healing, or are just after some new jewellery, the fair is a great opportunity to check out this local community organisation and the things they do.

The stalls are one of the main sections of the fair. Here club members and other stall holders sell their wares. There will be large collections of gems and minerals, as well as things like jewellery and gem trees that have been crafted from gems and stones. You never know what you might find. There's something different each year. Last year Edible Earth was selling delicious and beautiful amethyst geode cakes.

Even if you can't sample the same delicious cakes, there will be a barbecue churning out sausage sizzle throughout the day and other drinks and snacks will be available.

If you're interested in exploring the world of stones and lapidary a little more, there are lots of other activities for adults and kids.

In the yard there will be digging for gemstones, gold panning, and metal detectors. You can learn about some of the ways that club members and collectors build their collections.

Inside there will be demonstrations of faceting and lapidary.

If the Gem, Mineral and Craft fair tempts you further you can come along to trail the club, and even join as a member.

The Southern Rockhounds have a great community for anyone interested in gems and minerals, but even if you're just looking for a fun day out the Gem, Mineral and Craft Fair is a great family activity.

Entry is only a couple of dollars for adults, pensioners and students, and children under 14 are free. For more information get in touch with the Southern Rockhounds Facebook Page.
