Welcome to the Southern Highlands, New South Wales where the clearness of the air cuts through your lungs like a violinist embracing with their instrument. The valleys seem to stretch on and on like a painted picture, and the farmlands bring composure to your soul...

The coast land is a stone throws away and being only around a two hour drive from Sydney, it makes it hard to believe you are not a world away.

From Robertson to Berry, these valleys will undeniably entice your soul and capture your heart, making it a perfect 'just what the doctor ordered' romantic getaway escape.

There are numerous things to do here that will satisfy everybody's taste. From adventure to a stroll around the farmlands, trying for a hole in one - whatever you desire the Southern Highlands offers it...

Filled with rich history and heritage and natural attractions such as National Parks, caves, waterfalls, and lookouts, boutique shopping, vineyards, adventures ranging from horse riding to kayaking, arts & crafts, gardens, golf and of course gourmet eating. The list is endless and a weekend is not enough - return visits are a must.

Fitzroy Falls is a small village with one of the most spectacular natural attractions in the Southern Highlands - Fitzroy Falls. It is filled with steep cliffs descending to the valley floor and the pathways lead you to the falls and there are many stunning walks to get the heart rate pumping.

To continue with the outdoor nature walks and lookouts Mount. Jellore Lookout at Bowral offers a wide view of the surrounding countryside and on a clear day Nattai and Kanangra wilderness areas along with the breathtaking Blue Mountains (Katoomba) can be seen too!

Wombeyan Caves are also another adventure and romantic getaway too. From walking hand in hand inside caves, taking a stroll along some of the walking tracks or to a romantic swim at the river beds...

For the best pie in the Southern Highlands The Old Store, Kangaroo Valley sure does have the 'world famous pies' the chicken and vegetable is a must try; the vegetables are left whole and with every bite you take it just melts in your mouth. It is a must stop for some tucker or just a light snack.

Another tasty pie store is Robertson Famous Pies, do stop here and make sure you sit outside in the gardens (it reminds me of the secret garden). These two places certainly do fit into the country theme and will tantalize your taste buds - take back with you a family pie, you will not be disappointed.

The Old Cheese Factory is a must visit when you are passing Robertson, this ice-creamy and cheese factory is a delightful treat. You can lick away with some of the most tasty house-made ice-creams or have a relaxing lunch as you hear the steam train go by. There is also a deli style take-away so you are able to purchase some goodies to take home such as cheeses, local made chutneys, jams and other deli delights.

Robertson is known for its spuds, and a visit to Robertson will not be complete without visiting a potato farm. There are a few around town. One of my favourites is the one at Wildes Meadow (Highland Gourmet Potatoes) where you are welcomed with a shed and a breathtaking view of the farm. The shed is filled with many potatoes ranging from blue to purple and all in between, you simply grab the bag/s you desire and place the money in the box and continue on your way for further exploration.

A visit to Sir Bradman Museum at Bowral is a must for the cricket lovers or if golf is more of your sport there are several scenic golf courses to aim for a hole in one.

Kayaking is another romantic adventure that can be done at Kangaroo Valley. You are able to hire kayaks and spend as little or as much time as you like exploring the river.

I can keep going on and on about the beauty of the Southern Highlands and the abundance of activities to do here, but then I will ruin your fun of exploring this beautiful gem.

It is time for you to take that break, grab your lover, pack your bags and go on that perfect romantic getaway and find new places together that will capture both your hearts for a lifetime...

There are many accommodations available in the Southern Highlands region ranging from Bed & Breakfasts, Hotels & Motels, camping etc. For all details on accommodation, please check the website . (We normally stay in Bowral at the Berida Manor ).
