The volunteers at Southern Downs Steam Railway in Warwick, have done an impressive job restoring a C17 Class locomotive, rolling stock, roundhouse and amassing an large collection of memorabilia. It's well worth a visit if you are in the area.
But even better is their efforts that make regular outings with the engine available to the general public, offering day trips from Warwick to both Clifton and Wallangarra.

Steaming towards Dalveen
The most common is a day trip down to Wallangarra, a restored historic station that is straddles the Queensland/NSW border. In addition to the trip there is the option to have lunch at Wallangarra. Alternatively, there is a Winery Mystery Tour option where you depart the train at Stanthorpe and onto a bus to sample the fare at some of the Granite Belt's finest, before returning to the train and the return run to Warwick.
Seeing this grand old lady steaming along is truly a sight to behold and the sound and smell and completes the experience.
