Sit back and enjoy a show, indulge in great food & wine
Situated right in the heart of Melbourne's Southbank Arts Precinct and with two theatre rooms The Sumner and The Lawler, this theatre is definitely a place to see that special show or to sit back and relax with a drink and maybe something tasty to eat at the Script Bar & Bistro.
According to The Australian 'The stage has everything that opens and closes, and the steeply raked, European-style auditorium makes watching a play a wholly pleasurable experience'; if it is good enough for The Australian, then this theatre is certainly a must visit for the next theatrical show you want to see!
The Lawler room sits 150 people with flexible space and is perfect for performances on an intimate scale, while The Sumner room is a state-of-the-art five hundred seat venue which offers the most advanced state technology and a level of intimacy not previously seen in Australia.
When it is time for those refreshments at the interval you are able to pre-order your refreshments at the Foyers Bar, which helps you to enjoy that interval break without waiting in long queues and feeling rushed during the break- whether it is drinks, snacks or both all you do is pre-order your items and sit back and relax during the interval-as your order will be all taken care of.
The Script Bar & Bistro is opened for pre- and post show drinks. It is opened from breakfast through to supper. Script offers a predominantly Italian-style menu and uses seasonal produce, sourced locally where possible to create approachable dishes showcasing the best Victoria has to offer and of course tantalising your taste buds.
It has an extensive wine list, including 21 different wines, along with a large range of liqueurs, aperitifs and cocktails making it the perfect place to stop for a pre- and post- show drink.
So next time you want to have a special night out, why not book yourself a theatre show at the Southbank Theatre and of course do not forget to pre-order those treats!
The theatre is easily accessible by tram, via Route 1 to South Melbourne Beach (it stops directly in front of the Southbank Theatre) and all other trams pass down St Kilda Rd.
It is a ten minute walk from Flinders Street Station and if you are arriving by car check the website for parking options.
