Brisbane in my opinion is the most under estimated city in Australia. In January this year Brisbane really took a battering, espeically one of my favourite spots, Southbank Parklands.
Previously the site for World Expo 88, Southbank is a short 10 minute walk from the Treasury Casino. It is home to the Wheel of Brisbane which offers a spectacular 360 degree panoramic view of Brisbane City and its surrounds. Even though I am not very good with heights the view I got was really something to see and it certainly took my mind off being so high and the fully enclosed air conditioned gondolas and the commentary made me feel safe and secure.
Southbank also offers a great walk along the Brisbane river. You can stop and relax at the various resturants and cafe's and simply watch the world pass by. Every September Southbank is the best vantage point for the fireworks at Riverfire and most recently it was a great place to view the Santos Laser Light show.
I love summer as swimming at the man made beach next to the Brisbane river is certainly something different in the inner city. Take advantage of the twlight markets every Friday night between 5pm to 10pm. School holidays Southbank is the place to be as you can take the kids to the QLD Museum, the Science centre, art gallery and the Maritime Museum. With Southbank you are spoilt for choice as there's something to suit most people and the best part is that Southbank is free for all to enjoy, locals and tourist alike.
