Southbank is an important cultural hub and is home to places like the Melbourne Arts Centre, Hamer Hall, National Gallery of Victoria, Malthouse Theatre, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, and a whole lot more. The area is teeming with entertainment venues, bars and restaurants, and significant and rapid residential development which has skyrocketed. Residents live in high-rise apartments and the tallest at 300 metres is the Eureka Tower. The 92-level tower is one of the world's tallest solely residential buildings. Weekends find locals and tourists alike, pounding the pavement seeking entertainment, or simply relaxing.

However, if you look beyond all of this, you'll find a remarkable history stretching back forty thousand years. Why not join the FREE on Friday 22 February 2019, when two identical walks will be held on the same day. The first walk runs from 10.30am to 12.30pm, and the second from 1pm to 3pm. Bookings are essential for this tour . The tour begins and finishes at Southbank Library , 207 City Road, Southbank.

Discover Southbank in a different light. Learn about the city's biggest public art controversy, ponder the mystery of the missing Allen's sign, and get the feel of the land as it once was; a temperate wetland fed by a crystal clear river. Learn more about your city and come along on this discovery tour.
