The choice for locals
Pinewood Shopping Centre harbours a gem of a cafe on Blackburn Road; South Society is a cafe, bar, and eatery dedicated to serving plenteous food that rejuvenates the diner. Fresh and seasonal produce is sourced and transformed into a delectable range of meal options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
After awakening late one morning, my friends and I traipsed over to South Society for brunch. The cafe was not crowded nor was it desolate. It gave the impression of a gently humming generator toiling away peacefully.
From the breakfast menu we chose three dishes - each to satisfy our hunger and curiosity. I fancied meat and went with the Middle Eastern Pulled Pork. It came with two poached eggs covered with jalapeno hollandaise sauce sitting on a toasted sourdough bread. Coriander, pomegranate seeds, fresh jalapenos, and a wedge of lime accompanied the little hill of food.
There was also the well-known Big Breakfast which was made up of lean bacon, chorizo, sauteed mushrooms, sourdough toast, hashbrowns, sunny-side up eggs, and grilled tomatoes. The portions at the cafe are generous and very filling for the average Australian.
Needless to say, the yolks from the eggs, poached and sunny-side up, flowed like a golden lava when pierced and made a very good companion to the crusty sourdough.
The last dish was a South Side Salad. Chicken was added as an extra - a plethora of extra toppings can be customised to fit your desires. For example, the Big Breakfast was ordered with extra jalapeno hollandaise hence the small bowl of sauce on the side.
All in all, a wonderful cafe that serves munificent portions at an affordable price with a great atmosphere for idle talk and socialising with friends. The staff are amiable and they follow up after your order arrives to ensure that your meal is pleasant.
