is a project run by Friends of the Earth , in conjuction with the Father Bob Maguire Foundation .

In order to be as sustainable as possible The Commons has invested in a water tank and solar panels. Previously concrete areas have been landscaped and are now growing herbs and other edibles. All the food waste from The Commons goes into their 3 bath-tub worm farms, and then back into the garden.

As well as being environmentally conscious, The Commons also also supports social justice and disadvantaged people. It does this through regular donations to The Fast Supper and inclusive community programs.

There's always a lot happening at The Commons. Yoga, Pilates , and Nia classes are all run regularly. There's also an organic food co-op called The Pantry, and a cafe, Let Me Be Frank, with indoor and outdoor seating.

The Bank Street Market runs from The Commons Hall, which is available to hire as a private venue as well. Back to Bikes runs from The Commons every Monday, and a Working Shed is moving in soon.

Worried about taking the kids along? Not only does the cafe have a box full of toys for them to play with, there's a sand pit outside just begging for some digging. If you book ahead, there's also Apples and Jam upstairs: a childcare centre that follows the ethos of The Commons while running things like garden workshops and parties for kids.

The Commons is a Community Hub with its own vibrant personality, and there are plenty of ways to contribute. Becoming a member (costs $60) gives you 10% off everything there, and supports their projects. They are always looking for volunteers in both the office and The Pantry, and are willing to support new ideas and initiatives. There's no time like the present to get involved!

Located on the cnr of Bank and Montague St, it's easy to access by tram 1 or 96, and bus 250, 251 or 253. See here for more details on getting there.
