South End Cafe can easily be dubbed the fabric of Newtown, and as you're leaving Newtown and heading into the next suburb, Erskineville. Whether you live in Newtown or somewhere else along the inner west of Sydney, and you love your coffee then call this institution home. This is what this area has done for so many locals over the last ten years. The amount of locals that come out for an organic brunch and for an organic coffee is surprising.
At the best of times it can be quite difficult to score a table here, unless you head here most Saturday afternoons. If you're lucky a friend might arrive before you and score a great table. Did I also mention that their cakes and muffins are gluten free? They absolutely are. That with an organic latte, and you're literally in cafe society heaven. Newtown heaven. Sydney heaven. My friends here love the muffins in particular, as well as the coffee. Both go hand in hand here.
This establishment is in a perfect location on a busy end of King Street - a short stroll away from Newtown train station. I was super impressed with how quickly my coffee arrived. I only had to put about half the amount of sugar I normally would pour into a cup of arabica love. That made way for a great coffee experience.
Quick service, great coffee, great food and trendy decor - what more could you want? The owners and the staff have a bubbly personality. They are quite social and upbeat. Clearly there is some love in this establishment. The latte art is subtle yet elegant. Who would have thought that organic fair trade coffee would taste so good, and of the arabica variety as well. It feels like you have died and gone to organic cafe latte heaven here.
