It is Raku's unpredictable results and intense colour that make it so interesting. The harsh cooling process and the amount of oxygen that is allowed to reach the pottery determine the patterns and colour. The pottery is heated quickly and either instantly cooled in water, cooled slowly in the open air, or placed in a bin full of newspaper, covered, and allowed to smoke. Combustible material produces smoke, which stains the unglazed parts of the pottery black.

"Just Us and the Chocolate Eclaires" are the musical accompaniment to the event. Claire, Fiona, Clayton and David sing and play their own original material on acoustic guitars, mandolin and blues harps.

There's an open house for the workshops and studio space, plus other demonstrations as well as wine and nibbles. You may be able to buy a freshly made pot on the night, but you might have to wait for it to cool down a bit before you can take it home!
