Enjoy the Magic of Showtime in the Country
For a wholesome, old-fashioned family day out there is nothing quite like a trip to a country show. The sights, sounds, local characters, prized livestock and colourful fairground entertainment all combine to create an atmosphere that evokes images of an era when life was simpler, and Australia really did 'ride on the sheep's back', as one old saying declares.

While 'big city' shows in Australia's capitals are notorious for being outrageous money-guzzlers, those in the country are much more affordable and are fun, informative outings that the whole family will enjoy. Here in South Australia we have a plethora of country shows to choose from, ranging from quaint rural fairs in the Barossa Valley to colourful outback events, complete with rodeo. Wherever you live and whatever type of event you prefer, there's sure to be a country show that will keep you entertained for a day, or even an entire weekend.

In conclusion, a visit to a country show is so much more than simply scary rides and overpriced show-bags. As an important part of Australia's cultural heritage these events are somewhere we can teach our children about our hard-working primary producers and remind ourselves of a slower, more wholesome way of life. For city-slickers, old and young, there's nothing as thrilling as petting 'real live' farm animals, watching the competitions in the show-ring or drooling over mouth-watering wonders in the cookery pavilion. Amidst all the glitzy attractions of Big City events, these essential elements of show culture are frequently overlooked. With the advent of South Australia's spring show season, be sure to treat the family to a weekend escape from the city, and head off to one of these cool country shows.
