Stars, sunset and sumptuous dinner with an Uluru sunset
Toasting a glorious day and life itself, there are few more glorious places then Uluru at sunset. The Sounds of Silence dinner provides that and more.

Arriving by coach in the midst of an outback evening you wander through the desert tables bedecked with white tablecloths awaiting our presence, but first, there is a sunset to enjoy. We take the short stroll up to a mini plateau overlooking the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park.

We enjoy canapes with the taste of the outback from smoked kangaroo to crocodile and myrtle filoette. Australian sparkling wine and beer accompany these delicious canapes whilst we enjoy the oncoming sunset that the Red Centre presents and which never disappoints. Each evening it offers a kaleidoscope of colours as the setting sun projects its light and shadows over this magnificent monolith.

Canapes are served with pleasing smiles and grace. We nibble and sip our wine and take the images to record the moment…. although they are etched in the memory more than any photo can provide.

A subdued darkness blankets Uluru and we descend to our candlelit tables to enjoy a buffet Red Centre style with a bush tucker inspired menu that offers crocodile, kangaroo and barramundi and dashes of lemon myrtle, rosemary and native dukkha.

Our glasses are amply replenished throughout the meal as we enjoy convivial company and share stories from travellers near and far with a desert range of desert lime cheesecake, chocolate and wattleseed slice and apple and quandong crumble tarts. A drop of port rounds off a memorable evening.

No outback night is complete without taking in the stars above in the pristine environment the darkened desert offers. The Sounds of Silence Dinner lives up to its title as lights are turned off and we become stargazers as our guide interprets the twinkling display above. From Milky Way to the Southern Cross and beyond we are taken on a starry journey that has provided stories from the land over many thousands of years.

Our evening is now complete as we bid farewell to an unforgettable experience. Whether a special celebratory event or part of the essential journey around Australia the Sounds of Silence dinner is a must-do experience. More details on the website.

Sounds fabulous, Kevin - not too sure about all that red dust though ... it could sure mess up a lady's shoes!
