Fire the imagination and turn drawing actions into sound

Polyglot Theatre are at it again. They are Australia's leaders in creating experiential, interactive and installation theatre that encourages kids to make the extraordinary out of the ordinary. For over 30 years they've been firing up children's imaginations from tiny Australian country towns to world class arts centres. The children in return are their source of inspiration. Observing how children come up with ideas in their imagined worlds, they recreate it in such a way that audiences can interact with and experience it through touch and play.
In collaboration with the City of Stonnington's Glow Festival, on the 16th of August 2014, between 10am and 4pm at Chadstone Shopping Centre there will be the drawing table wired for sound, along with paper and a variety of drawing materials. A facilitator will take participants through a series of abstract drawing exercises, which in the end will become a large shared drawing. Every time the pastel or crayon touches the table, sensitive microphones will pick up the sounds and amplify it. As you can see from last year's video, this only fires the kids up and they move and draw inspired by the sounds they hear that come from their own actions.
This physical action of drawing is what becomes a soundscape, a gentle installation placing performance, action and sound in the internal imaginative space of children drawing. Upon completion, each drawing will be hung on the wall and gradually this space will be filled with the colours and textures of our Australian landscape from desert to city to beach to forest.
