Soulfood is a great little cafe located on the popular Smith St. It is easy to find, and offers the choice of sitting outside or inside. It was a cool Melbourne night, so my partner and I opted for an inside spot. The waitress was very bubbly and sweet, and greeted you as though she had met you a dozen times before.

The decor had a very relaxed feel with the choice of a booth or table. No matter where you choose to sit, there is always a good deal of space between you and other patrons, and you can comfortably enjoy your experience without overhearing others' conversations. We were offered menus quickly, and the special board was placed in front of our table as the waitress explained what each dish contained. Everything is pretty straight forward, the food is full of fresh ingredients and vegan and vegetarian options are available.

I was very pleased with the salad section, which offered you the choice of small, medium or large. Small consisted of one salad dish, medium was a selection of two salad dishes, and large was three. I chose the Asian mint salad, as well as the black rice salad.

My partner chose the roast vegetable salad as well as the chickpea tangine. The meals were quick to be prepared and before long, we were looking at delectable dishes full of colour and ingredients.

The salads were healthy and fresh. They came in very decent sizes. I struggled to finish my dish, and it is not often that you can get a decent feed for under ten dollars. Soulfood is not one to hurry you out the door, but are happy to let you wine and dine in peace.

Another one of my favourites; I have now become a regular here. I enjoy the friendly and helpful service, the relaxed vibe, and the delicious but non expensive food. The menu is available on their website and no booking is necessary. Enjoy. :)
