With a heap of writing experience under his belt, "B Walkin" resides in Brisbane and has published his first book.
One would wonder why a surfer who lost her arm, would return to the very place where the accident happened. Even more astounding is the fact that straight after, the first question that popped into her mind is "When can I surf again?"
This is the true story of Bethany Hamilton, a teenage surfer who was the victim of a vicious shark attack, while surfing on the waves of the famous island Hawaii. A surfer from the age of five, she had become a lover of the sport, and had even gained the attention of the famous surfing sponsor, Ripcurl. But her lifelong ambition suddenly took a turn on that eventful morning unlike any other. What seemed like a regular day in the life of a surfer changed her life, but with amazing consequences.
The movie Soul Surfer (2011) is an adaptation of her life for the big screen, using inspirations from her book, also named Soul Surfer, which was released in 2004. The book details what made her come back from such a horrific accident to become one of the unprecedented entrants in the World Surfing Championships. As a result, she continues to be a role model to countless surfers and the admiring public. The movie is one of few that actually included her behind the scenes. Bethany Hamilton actually performed a cameo role in most of the stunts while the movie was being shot, and was heavily involved, along with her parents, in all stages of the movie production.
The movie reflects the character of a teenage surfer who simply continued to give up, despite the odds. As a result, this truly remarkable story of courage and determination is bound to inspire viewers of all ages.
Soul Surfer was released in the USA on April 8th, and will be released in Australia on May 26th and in the UK on June 17th, 2011.
I'm never really into these types of movies, but I'm actually looking forward to seeing this one. I saw her story and she has such courage. I honestly don't know if I would be able to do what she did to bounce back like that. I give her a lot of credit.
