Food that's good for the soul and the wallet
Situated inside a traditional terrace house in Melbourne's University precinct (on Cardigan Street in Carlton), Soul Soup serves wholesome, home-style soup.

I felt welcomed here as soon as I entered. On the owner's recommendation, I ordered their potato, leek and bacon soup which came out in a cute pot with slices of fresh Turkish bread on the side.

My soup was smooth, creamy, not too thick and beautifully flavoured. There was plenty of soup, but I probably would have enjoyed more bread.

Soul Soup tends to only offer to two or three soup varieties a day to keep costs and waste down seems like a good idea to me. Other popular soups include red lentil, and carrot and coconut.

They serve fair trade organic coffee here. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options are also available.

There's a relaxed environment at Soul Soup and the food is reasonably priced (my soup was $7.90). They've got indoor and outdoor seating (sunny courtyard) and FREE WiFi.

Soul Soup is a gorgeous little cafe and a great place for brunch but what really makes this place are the friendly staff who seem genuinely interested in their customers.

You can read about their catering and functions options here (all the important food groups are covered: sandwiches, cheese and fruit platters, sushi, cakes...)
