Mon 26 Jan 2015
This Australia Day you are spoilt for choice in Sorrento with two venues to choose from. The earlier start and finish is at the
Sorrrento Bowls Club on Hotham Road starting its celebrations at 10am and concluding at 5pm. You can play barefoot bowls all day with coaching from club members and there will also be special bowling games for children. The flag raising will be from 10.30am to 11am with an address by Australia Day Ambassador, Simon McKeon. The National Anthem will be sung by the choir led by Antony Ransome. There'll be a free community sausage sizzle between 12.30 and 1.30pm as well as lots of craft stalls and raffles to try your luck.
The Sorrento Portsea RSL on Hurley street will celebrate from 10.30am to 6pm. They will begin with the Flag Raising from 11am to 11.30am with an address from the Australia Day Ambassador, Stephen Silk. The National Anthem will be sung by local student, Rose Castles.
RSL Volunteers will serve sausages and burgers at the free community BBQ from 12noon till 4pm and you can sit back and relax to the tunes of local bands from noon till 6pm. 'Out of the Blue' will be playing favourites from the 70s, 80s and 90s and 'Munster Terrace' will be playing classic rock covers. Tough choice. Pick a venue or visit both.
